Traveling with Toddlers

Who doesn’t love a good adventure? My husband and I have always talked about traveling with our kids and helping the see the world with us. Though we don’t go to any crazy exotic places, we are still traveling a few times a year and the girls have been troopers for every trip.

Here are a few tips we have learned over the last three years traveling with little ones.

  1. SNACKS. I cannot emphasize this enough. Think you packed enough snacks? Pack more. I promise they will eat right through every single one of them and it might be within the first hour of being on the plane. They are bottomless pits on the airplane. We always let them choose a snack at the store in the airport too, since I usually pack fruits and crackers and they want candy or fruit snacks so we let them choose something fun. We love a good bento snack box to give variety. Check out my favorite one from Amazon.

  2. We have no screen time limits on the plane. You want to watch a movie? Cool, watch four movies if it keeps you content. If they get bored they will usually ask for something else to do.

  3. Get them a new toy. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant or big, just something they haven’t seen before. Wrap it up like a present and hype them up about this new present they get on the plane. They love that stuff. Surprises, hell yes.

  4. Plan the flight around nap time. A 1-2 hour nap on the plane is a lifesaver.

  5. Make it fun! Talk to the kids about the trip and what you are going to do when you get to your destination. Pool? Beach? Disneyland? Explain to them the process of getting to a new location and how exciting the destination will be for them!

A quick 13-hour flight to Türkiye. See the candy and the new toy? Mila was loving it!
